Reflection:
Today in class we further investigated the Jazz genre. We looked at a composition that used the ‘F’ natural minor scale. We each had to individually improvise a melody that fit the chord progression and scale. My improvisation was alright. I was initially really worried about improvising and thought that I would probably stuff up because I had never improvised before. I started by playing ‘F’ for the first 8 crotchets and then changed the rest of the notes, ending on the ‘F’. I decided to play this on the piano because I didn’t have my clarinet with me, and I didn’t use any outside notes. After playing my improvisation I was satisfied with the end result. By doing this improvisation I learnt that it is a good thing to end on the tonic- being ‘F’. I am really looking forward to the rest of the Jazz unit because I think it sounds cool and will be fun to learn more about.
